One can never be too prepared when taking a long journey….or can I? I’ve revoked any sense of control, and have no concept of what this is going to be like, but I was inspired by a handmade postcard I just got from my friend Alan, a simple watercolor of an eggplant, and thought it would be fun to make a little visual memo for each day, with a brush…but all my water colors are in tubes, so I headed down to the art supply store and….darn it, nothing but cheap color pans. Store sales wizard Jill said, “I’ve got a friend who makes little watercolor sets with artist grade paint in them, out of old tins. Here’s her Etsy site……”

Now I have something new to fixate on: which box do I get and take on my journey??????? I want the little ginger candy one, but the slender Macanudo cigar box has room for my brushes…OH Caryn just let it go!!! Stay tuned to find out the conclusion to this suspenseful matter.
That is soooooooooo cool.
If you are going to do it…go for the one that holds your brushes…it’s the purchase I found to be easier to rationalize. Hee Hee…Don’t we all end up packing too much.
But you WILL use your supplies, so it seems like a great purchase to me.
*I’m an enabler*
I went and caressed the darling ginger candy box, but the Macanudo tin was really the best; the top of the tin opens flat, so I can use it to mix colors, and the pans are just far enough apart to be able to freely wield my brush without knocking into neighboring pans of color. And indeed, the extra room for brush storage is perfect. Verry important considerations, indeed.
If you ever do take such an item abroad with you, here are some things to consider: if asked at Customs what it is, say they are artist watercolors, not paints. If you say they are paints, Customs will assume they have solvent in them and take them away from you! And, some wc’s are made traditionally, using honey as a binder, so take care to keep them upright, and perhaps in a ziplock baggy.
Oh wow, that sounds great.
I had no idea about traveling with “paints”. Great tip for customs and using watercolors. Wow.
I’ve learned so much from you Ms. Caryn.
Have a fabulous experience.
I learn something new every day (if I’m lucky!)
Take both
I knew you’d say that!!!
Relaxing is good!
thanks for the invite…I am very excited to take the journey…what a great idea. And the pic of Richard was hysterical.
Love this idea for the paints, and I love the visual memo idea. I am definitely going to want to see them. I love Jill – she is always so helpful and nice!!!
I hope I do them, so we can both see them!
